If we're lucky, veteran comic artist and inker Gerry Alanguilan (in photo above) will grace the Comic Con event on July 16 which will be held at the Baguio City National High School. 

Laguna-born Mr. Alanguilan is the man responsible for such nifty works as Wasted, ELMER, Johnny Balbona, and Humanis Rex!  As well as for inking several issues of X-Men, Wolverine, Fantastic Four, Superman, Wetworks, etc.  Alanguilan's short horror comics entitled "Sim" also appears in the graphic collection Underpass. 

Along with Whilce Portacio (co-creator of  Bishop in the Marvel universe), Gerry Alanguilan is one of the few Pinoys who have carved a name for themselves in the comic book industry.

This is the first time the Comic Con is convening in the city of Pines. 

It's only a one day event but the activities are packed.  Expect the usual comic book sales, plus workshops, live model sketching and comic strip drawings, and even an create-your-own-original-character contest.  Even better, meet and greet with your favorite illustrators.

McDonald's Goes Rio

Granted McDonald's Happy Meal cost a bomb.  It's actually the toys you're paying for.  The diminutive burger and fizzy cola are just an afterthought.


But Buyer's Remorse aside, at least you get the whole cast of Rio (the animated film from the makers of Ice Age) in all their plastic glory.   Which is nice.

I have yet to watch Rio though, so in lieu of a movie review, I'm simply and conveniently showing you the poster for the Happy Meal toys instead.  I have a feeling Rio is good, so go grab that Happy Meal, and banish all guilt about the fact you paid scads of money for a little plastic trinket.

We want to know What's your Favorite Kiddie Toy & Why.

 Whether it's a Smurfs stuffed toy or a Leonardo action figure from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or a plain old yo-yo or jumping rope--as long as it's your favorite toy, who are we to question?

And it doesn't even have to be from your childhood; it could be something recent--say, the Kinect Xbox (sure, techie toys are allowed).  

But of course, we prefer nostalgia, so if your childhood toy is still around and you can get a picture of the two of you reunited, all the better.
